Wood Flooring

Wood floors are available in an almost endless combination of lengths, widths and thicknesses that enables us to create stunning wood floors. We can supply standard planks, mixed width planks and parquet designs such as herringbone, basket weave, chevron and continuous Versailles. Over the last two decades we have seen the popularity of wood flooring move away from traditional solid woods to engineered products and for good reason. Whilst some people will want to remain traditional the benefits of its engineered equivalent are far greater.

Solid wood floors as the name implies are produced from a single piece of wood. Engineered boards also known as Semi-Solid are products manufactured in multiple layers with a solid wood top, the carrier or core boards are often plywood or HDF (High Density Fibreboard) The main benefit of the engineered board is a far more stable product that is suitable for use with under-floor heating and better suited to the modern energy efficient houses of our generation. By only having a top layer of hardwood such as the popular specie of oak, walnut and maple there is also an environmental benefit as the engineered boards use the less popular specie such as birch, spruce and gum as their core. Hardwood trees are generally slower growing than the Softwood species so the benefits of utilizing the softwood species are obvious.

Parquet Floors

The term Parquet originates from France meaning “Wood flooring blocks laid in a geometric pattern” The popular designs are Herringbone, Chevron, Basket Weave, Broken Bond, Dutch Pattern and Parquet De Versailles to list a few. Traditionally these were made using solid blocks but as we alluded to earlier almost all are available in the engineered format.

Caring for your floor

Mop up spills of water and other liquids as soon as possible.

To safeguard floors we recommend all furniture be fitted with felt pads. When using a mop, ensure that the mop is only slightly damp and never dripping with water.

Do not use bleach or aggressive cleaners on wood. Never use a steam cleaner on your floor.

It is very important to keep wooden floors clean. Dust, dirt and grit should be regularly removed using a microfibre mop or a vacuum cleaner with a soft attachment. If allowed to build up, dust, dirt or grit can act like sandpaper, scratching and dulling your floor.

Do not use ”all-purpose” cleaners on your wood floors as they tend to leave a dull residue and you end up using too much water, which is damaging to your wood floors.

Oiled Floors

Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner is a convenient ready diluted spray which is designed to quickly clean and maintain surfaces treated with Hardwax Oil. This PH neutral product contains Vegetable oils and Carnauba wax, which means that as your surface is cleaned, a thin replenishing and protective layer of wax is also applied. Simply spray the surface lightly with Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner and wipe with a cloth or mop.

Worn surfaces can be easily renovated using a Preparation Cleaner or Wax Polish.

Preparation Cleaner is an aggressive cleaner which removes contaminates such as dirt, grease and fat, leaving wood ready for refreshing with Wax Polish. Preparation removes a small amount of wax, so do not use it for regular cleaning.

Wax Polish is an easy to apply clear polish designed to refresh worn wooden floors finished with Hardwax Oil. Wax Polish forms a durable, water repellent and non slip finish. Wax Polish can be wiped on using a lint free cloth or buffed on using a slow machine with a white pad.

Lacquered Floors

If your wood floors are starting to look dull or have small scratches, you can use a Wood Floor polish or a refresher to revive them.

Polish and refresher add lustre to your dull wood floors and act as a layer of protection against wear and tear.

Polish or refresher can be applied as needed but usually a few times a year. Always make sure the wood floor is cleaned before re-applying.
